Subsequent to the inception of the ASHE Society, ASHE Regions and Sections eventually sprouted up in the Northeastern United States and along the Eastern seaboard. Florida was one of the more recent states to organize an ASHE Section and was introduced to the National Organization in 1992. Eventually in July 12th of 1995, the Tampa Bay Section was chartered with 113 members. The newly formed section drew heavily from the local Florida Department of Transportation, District Seven office. Fifteen energetic Department personnel became key Charter Members, while most other Charter Members were consultants and professionals in the highway construction industry who worked closely with the District Seven staff.
Since its inception, the Tampa Bay Section has held regular quarterly meetings which have included informative speakers and programs relevant to important highway industry issues and projects. The Tampa Bay Section has also chaired numerous Transportation Supersessions and held joint meetings with other Tampa Bay Engineering Societies.
Today, this Section, which covers Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg, Florida, maintains a membership from both the public and private sectors with over 60 people. The Tampa Bay Section continues to be an excellent platform for bringing Transportation and Highway-related Professionals together in the Tampa Bay area to network and share innovations and technical information.

Mission
The Mission of the American Society of Highway Engineers is to provide a forum for members and partners of the highway industry to promote a safe, efficient and sustainable transportation system through education, innovation and fellowship.

Conception
The realization of the enormous growth of the highway industry in the mid-20th century, in particular, the inauguration & implementation of the National System of Interstate & Defense Highway Act of 1956, and the recognition that the knowledge for such a program could only be consummated by the whole-hearted and integrated efforts of all persons associated with the highway industry, led to the formation of the ASHE, with the intent & determination to assume it responsibility for the development of the rapid growing demands of the highway industry.

History
The Society was incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1958 with the conception and inception of the first Chartered Section (Harrisburg Section) credited to a small group of dedicated engineers from the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, in association with a group of outstanding contractors, material suppliers, and consulting engineers in the Harrisburg area. Since then, ASHE has grown into an organization consisting of over 6,000 members, and over 40 operating sections in 9 regions throughout the United States.
